I think this is a redundant fork, but I'm just noting here there were several potential copyvios from academic papers which I found, but they all appear to be false positives as the text on the main Andaman and Nicobar Islands page was there long before those articles were published. I have removed the following section as no other reliable source exists [yet] supporting the claim that Marathas ever made the Island their base
The islands became a temporary shipping port of the
Maratha Empire and its
navy in the 17th century. The first empire to list the Andamans under its territory was the Maratha Empire.

Kanhoji Angre established a basic naval dominance in the islands and played a role in the annexation of the islands to India.
