Thanks, Shudde. I'm finding Papers Past, also part of the National Library of New Zealand, an excellent source for Albert Downing: as you'd expect, several articles also mention Dewar. FunkyCanute ( talk) 11:19, 14 July 2015 (UTC) reply

The search function on there is not perfect, so things can easily be missed. It makes it a hard slog sometimes, but there are hidden jems in there! More:

These are great! Any idea what the reference to 'butter fat' is about, in the second picture? FunkyCanute ( talk) 11:27, 16 July 2015 (UTC) reply

Stratford

There seems to be some confusion... contrary to NZRU's article, it appears that Dewar moved to Stratford in 1913, having played for nearby Hawera from 1910. I could be mistaken.

For the move, see:

  • "Football". Taranaki Daily News. 16 April 1913. p. 7. Retrieved 16 July 2015.
  • "Stratford News". Taranaki Daily News. 13 May 1913. p. 3. Retrieved 16 July 2015.

Previous articles show him playing for Hawera.

In Taranaki, it looks like he played for:

  1. Hawera 1910-? (Now part of Southern RFC)
  2. Star Club (of New Plymouth?) ?-1912/3 (Now part of Spotswood United RFC)
  3. Stratford 1913-1914 (from which he was selected for NZ)

Shield defence

I've uncovered plenty of contemporaneous articles dealing with these games. I'll flesh out the final sentence in Rugby career into a proper paragraph. FunkyCanute ( talk) 11:20, 16 July 2015 (UTC) reply

Flags in infobox

As per MOS:INFOBOXFLAG we should avoid the use of flags in the infobox. So I removed the flag next to the New Zealand flag. -- Shudde talk 09:11, 22 July 2015 (UTC) reply
