This article should be called Hajime no Ippo because it was never licensed in English. I want opinions because my last comment about this was ignored. Gune ( talk) 03:14, 13 April 2009 (UTC)
Because the anime (i.e. what most english speaking people would recognize) was released in English speaking countries as Fighting Spirit. Let it go. 163.41.152.57 ( talk) 17:45, 23 April 2009 (UTC)
The manga is the official version. The anime didn't even sell well so you have no idea what you are talking about. Gune ( talk) 18:28, 3 May 2009 (UTC)
It doesn't matter. The proper name is Hajime no Ippo. The anime did not sell well so Fighting Spirit is NOT the official name. The manga has never been licensed and is much further along than the English anime ever was. Gune ( talk) 06:17, 29 August 2009 (UTC)
The name of the manga is Hajime no Ippo. Calling it Fighting Spirit is factually incorrect. There is no Fighting Spirit manga, and never has been. Translating the name to The First Step might be acceptable, but Fighting Spirit(manga) is absolutely wrong. It's a name that exists solely on Wikipedia, no references, no citations, no existence, save here. To my knowledge this goes against multiple guidelines, and shouldn't even be a question. —Preceding unsigned comment added by 75.119.23.208 ( talk) 04:27, 26 December 2010 (UTC)
I've removed the Spectrum Nexus' review because Spectrum Nexus' website is in violation of Wikipepedia's policy on external links by containing materials in violation of copyright law. -- Farix ( Talk) 19:45, 8 August 2009 (UTC)
I had renamed it Fighting Spirit (series) explaining in my edit summary its about the series, more there about the anime and games than the manga(which might not have even been released in English)). This was reverted. If the manga was never released in English, why do we have an article for it here, instead of calling it by its actual official name? Why not have an article for the Fighting Spirit Anime and mention its based on the manga Hajime no Ippo and link to that article? Or since there is a lot of information for the game, not just the anime, why not have an article for everything and call it series? Calling it Fighting Spirit (manga) when there was never a manga released called that, is rather ridiculous. Everyone please respond and say what you think the name of the article should be. Dream Focus 22:03, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
Everybody who calls the manga Fighting Spirit is a flat out liar. Since it was never released in English the name for the manga is Hajime no Ippo. Gune ( talk) 22:12, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
You don't have to move the articles. By changing the titles back to the originals (besides the article name), it gives the name of the manga as the original name. Since it was never released in English there is no English name for the manga. I never changed the title for the anime. I only changed the title for what was related to the manga. Gune ( talk) 22:26, 14 November 2010 (UTC)
No it isn't. Piracy is huge in the world and far more people knew about Hajime no Ippo because of fansubs and the scanlations of the manga. The anime did not sell well in English so your logic that more people know the English name is complete BS. Gune ( talk) 23:23, 29 January 2011 (UTC)
Not the point. You said ", that's how it's commonly referred" Which isn't true at all. It is commonly known as Hajime no Ippo. Gune ( talk) 03:43, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
And as I am still saying. Even if those sources are "reliable" it is still wrong to say that the official English spellings are more known. Also yes more people are needed for a consensus. Gune ( talk) 21:10, 30 January 2011 (UTC)
The result of the move request was: Move. Cúchullain t/ c 01:19, 31 October 2013 (UTC)
Fighting Spirit (manga) →
Hajime no Ippo – The manga (main topic of this article) isn't published in English-speaking countries, and it's well-known as Hajime no Ippo. Fighting Spirit was the title Geneon USA (doesn't exist anymore) choosed for the 1st season of the anime that they released on DVD. NTV, the main producer and copyright holder of the anime,
presents the 1st season as Hajime no Ippo : The Fighting! in its English catalog (and mentions that it is "based on the manga "HAJIME NO IPPO"). A new development is that Crunchyroll is currently
streaming the anime (3rd season) under the title Hajime no Ippo: The Fighting!
