I don't have to consider that it is the primary topic. It currently is, and there is a dab page at
HNW (disambiguation). Creating another dab page at
HNW is not allowed, or at least not sensible. There should be only one dab page for a given term and I'm just keeping things consistent. There are two ways to change a primary topic redirect such as this into a (the!) dab page, when the history at the redirect prevents you doing a
WP:BOLD move:
redirects for discussion where you could propose to turn the redirect into the dab page, in practice by moving the dab page over the redirect; or directly
propose to move the dab page over the redirect. After a period of discussion, assuming the consensus agrees with you, then the move will likely be done by someone with sufficient permissions.

I don't do much work in the disambiguation area (you might do, I don't know), so I'm not overly fussed about where the disambig page is - I just wondered why the railway station, only by it's code, is the primary article to be referred to? I'm not asking for a page move, I'm exclusively wondering why HNW redirects to the station - not the disambig?
Either the station is considered the primary topic for HNW and
HNW redirects to it. *Or* HNW is ambiguous and it is a dab page. Having
HNW (disambiguation) as the dab page and
HNW redirect to it is just wrong, that's not how it would be set up. So if you want HNW not to be a redirect to an article, then the dab page should actually be at
HNW, not at
HNW (disambiguation). So a page move would be required and
HNW (disambiguation) would then be a redirect (and nothing in Wikipedia should deliberately link directly to the dab page to enable tracing of mistaken dab links). I suspect it is this way purely for historical reasons. the first "HNW" to be created was the station, probably the only one at that time.

Thanks for the explanation - very helpful for someone who doesn't deal with Disambigs as I say! I might start an RM eventually if I care...!

Redirecting HNW to HNW (disambiguation) results in a
WP:MALPLACED disambiguation. I've no opinion as to whether the redirect to the station should remain a
WP:PRIMARYREDIRECT, but if you don't think it is, then as Lithopsian suggests, you should propose to move the disambiguation page.
