Korean War, but pulled out due to an ear infection.

And the claim that he missed the "doctor's final exams" for the same reason

Tall and good-looking, Skidmore found work as a photographic model and appeared in television commercials, including as the Vaseline Hair Cream man. He featured on posters for an "Unzip a banana" campaign, and with his family in ads for P&O travel and the Abbey National. The Daily Telegraph describes his as a singer. What and when did he sing? This needs to be added to he article main body. The only mention in
The Times obituary is "In any case he began to develop acting ambitions and after taking singing lessons secured a part in the West End musical Marigold in 1959.
