This is an exceptionally complicated article. I am a systems application developer and I had trouble sorting out the meaning of the term from the article. I propose the emphasis on "enterprise" is misleading. From what I understand, federated software design are decentralized. They work together. Twitter DM is not a federated design. Email is a federated design. "Homelab" groups describe open source software solutions as "federated". — Preceding
