Changing "[eu]" to EU

How is "[eu]" "popular"? Most ppl would refer to it as "EU". It's like MTV is referred to as MTV, not [mtv]. Do you call it Toys "R" Us or Toys "Я" Us? (For those who don't understand, the Toys R Us brandname uses a backward "R").
