This is in no way the second railroad in the U.S. - see Oldest railroads in North America. I believe the Niagara Portage one would be west of the Appalachians, so it wasn't the first there either. -- SPUI ( T - C) 18:37, 9 July 2006 (UTC)
i'm pretty sure the original name was in French, as " Champs-Élysées" (Elysian Fields is the English translation) when New Orleans was still named Nouvelle- Orléans (it was before French language was forbidden in French colonies -Cajun-). can anyone confirm or infirm this?
