Ahhh... you might want to mention what this is about. I had to look it up, I'm only partially sure it's from a musical- I almost tagged it as speedy-delete nonsense. You might also want to look it up under the name of the musical, they might describe things there. Cantras 05:03, 2 December 2006 (UTC) reply

Costume - inspiration

"Electra is based on the British Rail Class 91."

While it's very cool that this class were indeed nicknamed "Electra", a quick date check makes this designation most unlikely. Starlight Express was initially designed in 1983/84, and revised in 1986. Electra must be based on a specific engine, but his helmet is the biggest clue, as these are modelled very closely on the engines they're based on. http://www.bellesdomain.co.uk/stex/brochures/l95_06.jpg here's his 1984 design helmet, along with the other racers. http://www.bellesdomain.co.uk/stex/brochures/b02_14.jpg This is the 1986 redesign as used in Germany. I do not see any resemblance to the BR Class 91? Belle pullman 13:50, 9 October 2007 (UTC) reply

Actually Electra is in fact based off of a French Locomotive that was used for the Trans Euro Express I'm not exactly sure what the specific class is but i'm sure of this —Preceding unsigned comment added by 208.79.178.2 ( talk) 17:00, 31 March 2008 (UTC) reply

Just got through making account that was me btw that made the previous post above your's. anyway after much reserch i was unable to find the exact loco that electra is based off of but i did find something similer here on wikipedia the SNCF Class BB 15000 it looks very close to electra's helmet but i will continue to look around for the exact loco to clear this up. -- Starlight Controller ( talk) 19:29, 1 April 2008 (UTC) reply
I DID IT! I finally found the exact engine Electra is based off of. first off by looking at this picture [1] we can clearly see electra's class number CC 40101. i googled this for images and found a picture of the exact loco [2]. So now that should clear up any dificulties or further questioning. also i need to bring this up while we are on the subject of costumes but it puzzle me why they would have electra's components where the ATSF logo while electra himself is not based on an american loco. -- Starlight Controller ( talk) 19:36, 1 April 2008 (UTC) reply
Costumes are very much my thing (my profession and passion) and I think you're right, that certainly does look a lot like Electra. But John Napier used a fair amount of artistic license with the costume designs, and another bout of creative licence came into play in interpreting his designs into reality. The designs are not necessarily based on one exact engine, as Electra is from "The Future" rather than any one country, his source material could be from anywhere. Why the components use specific logos is, again, artistic licence as far as I can tell!
Starlight's design went through two distinct stages, the first being the original London designs, then the Broadway designs which were used for subsequent productions. Unsurprisingly the Broadway designs are far more America-centric than the London ones! Belle pullman ( talk) 23:53, 1 April 2008 (UTC) reply

yeah you're right i guess that pretty much makes scince still it is good to know that we can pinpoint an exact reference of inspiration for the helmet part of electra. -- Starlight Controller ( talk) 13:44, 2 April 2008 (UTC) reply

Me Again. Sorry to be a bit of a pain but i've discovered another thing that can confirm that electra is specifically based on that engine. It is a little known fact that some of these locomotives were built to handle Dual Voltage Hence AC/DC Perhaps? :\ -- Starlight Controller ( talk) 16:29, 23 April 2008 (UTC) reply

AC/DC

Um... what the heck does "AC/DC" mean? 76.28.186.172 07:58, 2 December 2007 (UTC) reply

–– Alternating Current/Direct Current, the two forms of Electricity used in Electronics. Alternating_current or Direct_current. As an Electric engine, Electra is saying he uses both. There is also the subtext of him being happy with either straight or gay, suggesting Electra is bisexual. This is confirmed by the choreography and ad-libs played out by the performer.

Just Wondering. Pretty sure this shouldn't be here. "He is also very vain. But then most of the characters are, aren't they?" I'll keep the vain bit But this is encyclopaedia, not a place to state opinions. I Think At Least. I agree. Personal opinions do somewhat undermine the facts. Mazz0626 ( talk) 14:29, 6 December 2007 (UTC) reply

Greg Ellis?

When did he play Electra? This article's already so big, understudies really can't be included or that'll be nearly every man who has ever been in the show! Mazz0626 ( talk) 20:37, 6 September 2008 (UTC) reply
