I was asked to chime in here, on the disagreement over whether the 1959 film is Ukrainian or not. The article linked, Dovzhenko Film Studios, says its subject is “a former Soviet film production studio in Ukraine,” so it is explicitly defined by both its sovereign state and country. The article is in both Category:Film production companies of the Soviet Union and Category:Film production companies of Ukraine.
Looking at the other films made by the same studio within a decade of this one for precedent, the articles about them define them as:
So neither appears to be unacceptable.
Ukrainian is more specific, and at the same time more recognizable. Although not necessary because the year is given, it doesn’t hurt to indicate it was made in Soviet Ukraine.
It is a Ukrainian-language film, by the way. — Michael Z. 18:45, 11 September 2023 (UTC)
