I'm beginning to wonder if there were two Douglas Hamilton's active in India at about the same time as the promotion dates I can find in the London Gazette don't always match with what's currently in the article. Prior to 1857 he wouldn't have held a Queen's commission, so I woudn't expect to find him there. Post Crown rule in the wake of the Mutiny I find:
Brother Richard's rank is incorrect. He also attained the rank of General. His daughter, Helen Sarah Hamilton, married Sir Bruce Maxwell Seton, 8th Baronet of Abercorn.

King George Sound seems more likely than St George's Sound.-- Grahame ( talk) 12:04, 7 March 2009 (UTC)
He would have gone to Adelaide to visit his brother George. http://adb.anu.edu.au/biography/hamilton-george-12961/text23427 Nothinheavy ( talk) 03:43, 28 April 2013 (UTC)
