The section on Father Ted claims that this show originated with Dermot Morgan, and that RTÉ refused to produce it. As far as I'm aware, this is all urban myth. The show was originated by Matthews and Linehan, and was never offered to RTÉ. They may have been inspired by Morgan's Father Trendy character, and this certainly inspired their casting, but as far as I'm aware Morgan was not involved in the origination of the concept. Any thoughts? -- Ryano 16:16, 26 Jan 2005 (UTC)
I'm going to remove the following from the article and rework the section on the origin of Father Ted a little. Currently it gives the misleading impression that the series originated with Morgan and was turned down by RTÉ. However, some of the following stuff might be salvagable in a section on Morgan's relationship with RTÉ:
-- Ryano 14:52, 15 Apr 2005 (UTC)
Isn't there a statue in Morgan's memory (of a big chair?) in a park in Dublin? It would be nice to have a photo of this. Seabhcán 14:56, 29 May 2006 (UTC)
A lot of the Father Ted stuff has nothing to do with Morgan himself - we don't need a description of characters he didn't play, for example.
A separate article was set up on this skit, but only contained two lines. ""Not A Great Player" is a skit performed by Dermot Morgan. In the skit, he impersonates Eamon Dunphy while he is in an Italian bar. This skit was made in honor of Ireland's run in the 1990 World Cup.". I started to merge, but decided I'd leave it here and let someone who knows the subject add it to the article. I've redirected the article here. *Exeunt* Ganymead | Dialogue? 20:11, 19 February 2007 (UTC)
Dermot lived in my local area when he passed away, in fact just around the corner from me. His home was in St Margarets, which belongs to the London Borough of Richmond. I wanted to check whether anyone had any concerns about this before i change the information —Preceding unsigned comment added by Jemmywilko ( talk • contribs) 01:21, 24 April 2008 (UTC)
"Frank Kelly said of his acting colleague "Dermot's mind was mercurial. I think he was a kind of comedic meteor. He burned himself out." The irony of Morgan's death, at a time when after twenty years of struggle, he had finally achieved financial and artistic freedom, was not lost on his family and friends and commented on by his colleagues in the media. Ironically, for a station that has such a tempestuous relationship with him, repeats of Morgan's Father Ted are now almost continually shown on RTÉ."
Neither of these twice-in-one-paragraph references to irony are, in fact, ironic; how ironic!
The mans a legend. the least he deserves is a picture of him on his article. I would upload one, but i don't know how. If anyone would please oblige.
There is an RfC on the question of using "Religion: None" vs. "Religion: None (atheist)" in the infobox on this and other similar pages.
The RfC is at Template talk:Infobox person#RfC: Religion infobox entries for individuals that have no religion.
Please help us determine consensus on this issue. -- Guy Macon ( talk) 05:26, 23 April 2015 (UTC)
Am curious as to the qualifiers/parameters for international renown (mentioned in first paragraph). Not to diminish Mr. Morgan's impact on British entertainment (or entertainment in general), but I've never heard of him (nor most of his work/roles) until I was reading the entry on Jack Lindquist and Mr. Morgan's name was mentioned. Apologies if I've offended anyone. 70.190.214.167 ( talk) 07:49, 29 February 2016 (UTC)

It would be interesting to read any comment, or reaction, in relation to Father Ted, which was made by the Catholic Church authorities. Are there any I wonder? 82.38.214.91 ( talk) 20:43, 20 June 2023 (UTC)
