Hello @
Alarics: I would like to add Novek's analysis comparing societal control and livestock control. I am not so certain about my phrasing however. Certainly I don't know if I got my point across.

Yeah so my familiarity isn't very good and so I'm sure my phrasing wasn't very good. Novek's position is that 1) corporal punishment of humans is widely used in some societies, not just in particular subcultures or settings, and that 2) this is similar in several ways (not just one) to the way it is used with livestock.

this articles is either about corporal punishments toward children, in an old-school education purposes, and the physical punishment of criminals as ordinary practice in some cultures... a better clarification and distinction would be needed, as well as a more comprehensive history (which is currently -may of 2023- mainly euro- and US-centered)

This article is about corporal punishment as a whole. It has links to several more detailed articles about specific aspects of corporal punishment. How do you suggest this be changed? --
