In the novel "Go Ask Alice" the protagonist went to Coos Bay and lived there for a while after she ran away from home. I don't know if this is worthwhile to include in the article so I'll let you guys decide that. The Wiki page on Go Ask Alice novel has more information about Coos Bay mention. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 206.110.228.40 ( talk) 21:54, 16 December 2013 (UTC)
I don't know how notable this is but Ken_Keyes_Jr., of "Handbook to Higher Consciousness" fame, had his training headquarters in Coos Bay from 1982 to 1990.

Coos Bay changed its name in 1944. It had previously been called Marshfield. In 1943 an election was held to consolidate Marshfield and the neighboring city of North Bend under the name "Coos Bay. The measure passed in Marshfield, but failed in North Bend. Following that election, Marshfield changed its name to Coos Bay. In 1965, the city of Empire voted to merge with Marshfield.
In 1987, another consolidation measure proposed that Coos Bay, North Bend and Eastside, a third neighboring city, should consolidate into a new city to be called Coos Bay. Again North Bend voted not to consolidate, but when Coos Bay and Eastside both voted to join, Eastside became a part of Coos Bay.
Considering that a large portion of the current city of Coos Bay is what used to be two other cities, I think it is worth noting those other two cities in the history section. If someone has more info on those original cities (Empire and Eastside) I wonder if it would warrant them having their own articles.
I'm still trying to figure out this wikipedia project thing. I'll look for info to verify what I seem to remember about the consolidatin and name change, but I guess I'm looking for a bit of guidance too. Theophilus75 20:57, 17 April 2007 (UTC)

I added a reference to a published work which seems to satisfy the article's claim that he "is said to have...". Mind you, one could arguably say that the existing reference satisfied that claim too, since it also "said" it... :-) Interesting thing is, I'd never have even thought to do that if I hadn't been here anyway altering the column code to work in IE - funny how these things work out, isn't it ? - Begoon ( talk) 16:11, 13 June 2010 (UTC)
Someone put in the needed reference tag. I added about 3 or so which were as credible as I could find. I couldn't seem to locate a city parks and recreation site like many cities have, just the coosbay.org one. -- Adam00 ( talk) 06:05, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
The Japanese garden at Mingus Park is impressive and would be nice to have a photo or more information. Also, many area events could be added, such as festivals, or the Shore Acres Christmas lights, which draws thousands of tourists each year.-- Adam00 ( talk) 06:16, 6 September 2011 (UTC)
The more I think of it, the more undeveloped this page is. There's nothing about Weyerhauser, which dramatically changed this community (now a casino). Or the museums, or myrtlewood factory. If no one does anything, I might add this when I get time. -- Adam00 ( talk) 06:22, 6 September 2011 (UTC)

It's also worth mentioning that in 1903, in the Coos Bay Public Schools, integration was attempted" is far too informal for Wikipedia. The heading
Other Racist Historyis obviously problematic and "
The murder went unsolved and the Coos Bay City Government has yet to acknowledge this racist killing" is not a sentence that should be said in WP:WIKIVOICE. Those are just a few examples. KidAd • SPEAK 00:53, 17 March 2021 (UTC)
So would "In 1903, Coos Bay Public School District attempted integration" work instead? How is "Other Racist History" problematic when the history is inherently racist? Should it say "Racial" history? It absolutely is racist history and needs to be understood as such. Also the book I cited for such says the murder went unsolved, and the city government has never acknowledged it. SHould I say they didn't acknowledge the killing? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Coosbay541 ( talk • contribs) 01:02, 17 March 2021 (UTC)

An editor deleted descriptive language on the section of our notable people. Rationale: "should have the bare minimum information to know who is referred to. Further detail lives on the bio page."
But as we all can plainly see, the small descriptive entry the editor deleted was far smaller that other entries on the list! Raising the question, why delete this entry? Did the editor like those entries better? It's very odd.
The descriptive entry was all RS supported. Unlike other entries. Makes it even odder.
And then you say, but I can't see the entry that was deleted. True. Someone hid it. Why?
And who hid it? They failed to leave a word here. Answering both those questions.
This, following as it does a third editor - editing the same series of entries - deleting reference to the person from the list of people with his surname because - can you believe it - he says (incorrectly) that on a list of names a reference is required (not so, and he could see there were none) .. it's all troubling. To me.
Perhaps we can get a seasoned editor, not with crossover edits with these editors, who can take a look at this? Where would I go to ask for that?-- 2603:7000:2143:8500:A45B:E4AA:91E9:A3F9 ( talk) 06:25, 4 February 2022 (UTC)
