Nintendo Power had not revealed who they had polled, as there was no reader poll, causing many to believe that it was a poll taken by employees of Nintendo Power. There's also the fact that Nintendo Power wields no influence whatsoever on Nintendo of Japan, or even very much on Nintendo of America. Many characters were seen on that poll and technically every video game character in existance is a possibility. It's pointless and inaccurate to get people's hopes up. I would like to see Olimar too and I definately think it's possible, but it's definately not worth noting on this page and confirms absolutely nothing.
They have no actual influence on Nintendo, and they won't reveal the type of people they polled. This is purely speculation without any source whatsoever. If you look at the SSBB page on Wikipedia, it makes it quite clear that this is the type of thing that we're trying to avoid. This has no place on Wikipedia. And can you tell me what place Olimar came in and site a source? Or about how many votes he received? (Not that it matters anways) Speculation, although practically inevitable, is not acceptable. Many other character's pages who were included in the poll have been disallowed this kind of treatment because it is simply not relevent. Just because you like Olimar does not make it any more logical to include. Please either cite a credible source that proves that characters included in Nintendo Power's poll will increase the likeliness of them being in SSBB (hint: saying Bowser and Peach were in the poll for Melee characters is not proof) or get rid of that section. If not, I will take action beyond simply deleting it myself (ie. informing others of this).
Another poll? I always thought the original reasearch tag was a bit harsh. I think we can just replace it with citation needed tags. I mean, the existence of the poll isn't original research, nor are we insinuating that Olimar may included in the game, so I don't think we're actually including research. I'll remove the cleanup tag, but we'll have to leave the citation needed tags. RyanG e rbil10 (Drop on in!) 03:48, 26 June 2006 (UTC)

I'm assuming there will be no objections to my removal of the Uncited tag. It's fully cited now, in my opinion. -- Kirby-oh 01:00, 31 December 2006 (UTC)
Which ship of Captain Olimar's is in Super Mario Galaxy? The Dolphin, or the other ship he had in pikmin 2? 68.81.252.24 ( talk) 12:31, 17 November 2007 (UTC)68.81.252.24
the 1 from no. 2. ;)
First line:
"Captain Olimar (Japanese: ã‚ャプテン・オリマー Hepburn: Kyaputen OrimÄ) is a fictional character from Nintendo's Pikmin video game"
Did somebody mess with the Japanese Katakana (or Hirogana, you know what I'm talking about), or is it just my computer? I don't want to change it because if it's just me, then I might mess it up somehow by trying to change it.

Update: I pretty much just found out that it was just my computer. It's back to normal now too, so nevermind. That sure was weird though..

It is stated, and quoted, that Captain Olimar is an anti-hero because "in spite of his good nature he enslaves a race of aliens and forces them to work". However, this is incorrect. After his initial contact, which consisted of little more than shock and some staring, Olimar starts to walk away, and the Pikmin follows him. If he truly enslaved them, then he would have forced them to bend to his will. But since the Pikmin chose to follow him, they are more like friendly allies or even co-workers than slaves. In Pikmin 2, he even states in one of his journal entries that "When I crash-landed on this planet, they helped me locate my missing ship parts. In my darkest hour, the Pikmin were there for me." Note that he says "they helped me", not "I used them". Olimar has also said that he loves the Pikmin and doesn't know what he'd do without them. Again, note that he did not merely say that "the Pikmin are useful".
Personally, it doesn't seem like Olimar enslaved a race of aliens and forced them to work. I feel that there is substantial evidence to the contrary, beyond the fact of his good nature. As such, I believe that the statement about Captain Olimar being an anti-hero should be removed. That or a much better reason should be given as to why he is labeled as one.
