I see that
User:Aervanath closed as "no consensus but most people want merge?" I don't agree with the closer's claim that " !votes don't take into account the recent updates to the article" - I respect that these were certainly good-faith updates, but they seem like trivial incidents and passing mentions; I'd have updated my !vote had they appeared more substantial. I still think a merge to a section of
Tailgating would be a good idea.

The reason stated in the AfD by
HumanBodyPiloter5 and concurred by myself was not answered to. Tailgating is not at all a relevant topic that comes up in motorsports, which makes these discrete subjects. Therefore any merge to
Tailgating should be avoided under point 3 of
WP:NOTMERGE and I strongly oppose any such proposal. -

If the motorsports meaning is truly so significant as to deserve a separate entry, then there can be a "Brake check redirects here. For the usage in motor sports, see (link)" hatnote. But I disagree, it doesn't seem that different at all. Look at some of the other examples in
Glossary of motorsport terms: I'm sure a short paragraph could be written that used Google to dig up every time the words "Catch fence" were used. But does that really meet notability requirements? It seems something similar happened with the motorsports section here. Again, I recognize this was in good faith, but it just doesn't seem all that significant, and to the extent it is, there can be a single sentence in the merged section that mentions its use there.

If somebody wanted I'm fairly confident a comprehensive article about the history and engineering of catch fences could be written. I don't really understand the logic here.

Oppose the proposal to merge
Brake check into
Tailgating; these are distinct topics, as the descriptions and references suggest. The former is relevant in the context of motorsport, while the latter is relevant for public road driving; they also relate to different behaviors.

Oppose: Not the same topic. Tailgating is not remotely the same as brake checking. One is concerned with keeping a close distance to the vehicle in front, while the other is concerned with malicious sudden braking by a vehicle in front.
