Note that [Bangka Island] is spelled BANGKA but that the spelling BANKA seems to be widespread outside of Indonesia. -- PeterMarkSmith 03:48, 20 May 2006 (UTC)
This makes little sense to me. What was the point of this massacre? How did it benefit the Japanese? Wouldn't they have been better off keeping them alive for bargaining purposes or for helping take care of their own wounded? Viriditas ( talk) 22:57, 12 July 2014 (UTC)
Because the Japanese were brutal and sadistic murderers? That might sound an exaggeration but they had a proven track record of sadism and war crimes during WW2.
