I greatly expanded the article and am now proposing an article merge between the Assassin and Thief character class pages. I belive the main article should be the Assassin, since the Theif character class is mostly a variation of the Assassin and that the Thief, Rogue, and Ninja character class should all be redirected to here. - The Exiled Fighter ( talk) 03:56, 26 May 2008 (UTC)
This article needs many refs from existing games you use as examples.. Yzmo talk 20:58, 27 May 2008 (UTC)
Good job! I've promoted it to start class. There are quite a lot of issues needed to be done to this article, and the following comment will take a really long time to fix. There is an absolute lack of references throughout the entire article, and those need to be added soon if you want to fight against the proposed merge. Plus, the article includes way to much fancruft (see WP:Cruft), but not enough outside, 3rd party, and non-game related information. Following not real (a.k.a. Bush said that Assassins in video games were...). I like the prose or style of writing in the lead, but the rest of the article needs a prose check. (See WP:MoS). Anyways, good job on the article and continue improving! -- haha169 ( talk) 04:34, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
This should be merged with the Thief page to " Thief (games)". Assassin and Rogue are both later than the Thief, which was introduced in the original Greyhawk supplement to the 1st ed of Dungeons and Dragons. Using "character class" in an article title is not that great, it's a jargon term. User:Krator ( t c) 11:09, 28 May 2008 (UTC)
I've returned from military business and have decided to followup on this article. I'll remove the cruft and provide sources for various parts of it. Also, I still believe the Thief (character class) page should be merged with this one. The term Assassin describes the actual combat style of the well known Assassin, Thief, Rogue, and Ninja classes in various games whereas a page titled Thief only describes a portion of the abilities and portrays a certain type of assassin-style class. Assassin is a better blanket term for the lot in my analysis. The Exiled Fighter ( talk) 00:14, 25 November 2008 (UTC)
i think this page misses a huge example: Assassins Creed —Preceding unsigned comment added by 83.181.143.133 ( talk) 13:18, 7 January 2010 (UTC)
Hello all, I'm returning to do some overdue cleanup on this thing.
• Removed a lot of content that wasn't encyclopedic in nature, was too inclusive for non-gamers or unfamiliar readers to immediately comprehend, or was difficult to source.
• Restructured the prose and reworded a lot of things to be more clear without using inside terms.
• Removed and reworded the content to avoid anything that may be instructional or advisory in nature.
Still need to:
• Find sources. This type of article is fairly difficult to source since there isn't necessarily an academic source of information on this subject. My guess is that the best bet is to look for sourcing information from game design authorities and from Dungeon and Dragons material, the original creators of the Assassin class concept, but it still proves difficult.
• Add in more examples so as to help expand on the concept of the Assassin character class in case enough sources can't be found.
• Add a History section.
That being said, after 30 days from now, if no one objects, I'm going to remove a few tags in regards to original research, cruft, and how-to content that, presumably, no longer exists.
