how can this area code be created in 1999 if seinfeld ended in 1998?
This article from the NY Times dated June 30th, 1999 also states that the area code goes into effect "tomorrow". http://query.nytimes.com/gst/fullpage.html?res=9E03E5DF163DF933A05755C0A96F958260

646 was proposed as early as 1997 and was in the news, so the Seinfeld writers decided to use it in a plot in 1998 since they couldn't wait until the area code actually started as there wouldn't be a show anymore. -- BOARshevik ( talk) 05:59, 2 April 2008 (UTC)
