I understand that in British English, "watering place" means a seaside resort or health spa, but that's only because I looked it up. For speakers of non-British English, "watering place" means a place where animals come to drink water. It's clear from the context that the former meaning was the author's intent, but perhaps a different phrase would be less confusing and conjure up more enticing images for people who aren't familiar with the British terminology. How about "Arcachon is a popular seaside resort, with a fine beach..."? Thanks! -- Mpwrmnt 09:07, 8 December 2006 (UTC)
I assume this means something like a spa resort. I'm guessing this article was written by a french person since it refers to people with pulmonary problems as 'invalids'. Perhaps someone can clear the article up a bit? Darktangent ( talk) 23:33, 15 April 2014 (UTC)
