Chips with a cpu and rom are not ASICs. As the programming in that kind of chip is digitally in the memory and not in the circuit. So even though the chip is designed for a specific application its not an ASIC. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 2A02:A44D:793F:1:F144:758A:BCAD:7EB1 ( talk) 12:46, 11 May 2023 (UTC)
On your revert to my edit on ASIC article, I believe machine learning ASIC merits inclusion in the article. Considering the limited scope on the History section for this article, it could include some additional detail on modern implementation of application-specific instances of use. Having the argument that it is a general purpose article I don't think itself merits removal of the content. Any questions/comments let me know, but since this is still a start-class article, I think adding new info on it is a helpful inclusion. Shaded0 ( talk) 03:24, 20 January 2017 (UTC)

From reading this article, it would seem like ASICs are exclusively digital circuits. The first and only time 'analog' is mentioned is the 'Full Custom' section. I feel like this does not represent the status of industry that well. As far as I am aware most 'true' ASICs designed for a single end-user product are some form of mixed-signal product? The Standard-cell designs subsection repeats what the Integrated circuit design says. I propose to move it. AXONOV (talk) ⚑ 18:45, 16 December 2021 (UTC)
