Is there a need to write a summary after each match?? I think only the scorecard along with important notes is enough. The summary can be written in the main article like previous edition

This is an encyclopedia, not a results service, therefore prose is important. However, it should be written without colourful journalistic embellishments i.e. like an encyclopedia, not a newspaper report. wjematherplease leave a message...18:36, 7 October 2023 (UTC)reply
Not done: That's on purpose. Were the cells not grayed out, there would be duplicates of every cell, and there would be cells representing teams playing against themselves.

The current format makes is incredibly difficult to see the overall results for a single team by looking at just the table. For example, if I want to know how the Netherlands did I would need to read 5 cells down a column (and remember to invert those results) and then 4 more in the row (but not inverting these).

The logic makes sense but duplicates would be welcomed by most for the sake of clarity. Only the diagonal cells (teams playing against themselves) need to be grayed out. It looks broken the way it is now.

Putting the same result twice is misleading (as it implies they played twice). Though not convinced this summary "table" is useful anyway.

Agree - but the table is very hard to interpret usefully given that it orders the teams alphabetically rather than by home or by batting first which would at least have the benefit of being somewhat intuitive. Two possible alternatives. 1 - fill the table out as if the team batting first were the "home" team (and presumably shade the reverse square to indicate a match has been played). 2 - turn the columns into each team's nth match (1, 2, 3 etc) to indicate the results progressively (everything would be duplicated but each match is the nth match for two teams so it is not wrong). This could presumably also indicate each team's position after each round (and maybe when they were eliminated etc).

Editor5454 If there arent descriptions for all matches, theres no point for them being there for like 12 or 13. If they are added, only then they should be restored. If you want them to stay, work to add the rest with appropriate sources

The lack of summaries for all matches is no reason to remove the ones that have already been written, provided they're of a good enough standard. –
PeeJay20:13, 24 February 2024 (UTC)reply
Agree, we should be encouraging more text summaries, not removing what we have. Wikipedia prefers prose to just tonnes of stats and tables, so the text should definitely stay, even if it's not complete.

PeeJay The current descriptions are about or less than a fourth of the matches, and since the tournament is over, no one is bothering to add 50 match descriptions with sources now. I have saved the text, and when someone is willing to add they can be re-added.
Its easier said then done. No one will like it more than me if they are there for all the matches, but being there for 10 or 11 makes it look incomplete. If I get time in about two weeks, I will start working on it; but dont let it be incomplete till then.
Agreed. @
Pharaoh496, feel free to continue working on the other games, and even make changes to the ones that already exist, but removing the content is not an option unless it actually violates a Wikipedia policy or guideline. –

How about we do away with the matchwise descriptions and add a tournament summary like in the 2019wc main page, with the important deets like the naxwell chase, mathews dismissal etc. @

That might be a solution if not every game has something important to say about it, but I'd rather properly investigate the option of writing about every game before considering consolidating all of the summaries into one section. If either of those options is too much for you, let's just leave things as they are. –
