Shalamzar ( Persian: شلمزار) [a] is a city in the Central District of Kiar County, Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, Iran, and serves as capital of both the county and the district. [4] As a village, Shalamzar was the capital of Shalamzar Rural District (now Kiar-e Gharbi Rural District) [5] before the capital was moved to Kharaji. The city is populated by Lurs. [6]
At the 2006 National Census, its population was 7,003 in 1,671 households, when it was one of two cities in the former Kiar District of Shahrekord County. [7] The following census in 2011 counted 7,132 people in 1,965 households, [8] by which time the district had been separated from the county in the establishment of Kiar County. [4] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 6,899 people in 2,116 households. [2]
