RustDesk is a remote access and remote control software, primarily written in Rust, that enables the maintenance of computers and other devices remotely. [1] The RustDesk client is available for operating systems such as Microsoft Windows, Apple macOS, Apple iOS, Android and Linux. RustDesk has the aspiration to be an open source alternative for Remote desktop software such as TeamViewer [2] or AnyDesk. Therefore, RustDesk is able to function without reliance on additional tools such as VPNs or port forwardings, even behind firewalls or NATs. Since version 1.2.0, RustDesk is based on Flutter, replacing the proprietary Sciter UI runtime library [3] [4] [5] that preceded it. In 2023, victims of technical scams reported to have been targeted by fraudsters who tricked users into installing RustDesk in order to get access to sensitive data. [6] [7]. RustDesk by default connects to a rendezvous server in China, however, this can be changed to route all initial connections through a self-hosted server.
End-to-end encryption.
