M12O40 cage in metatungstate.

In chemistry, metatungstate refers to the anion with the formula [W12O408- and salts derived from this anion. The term also refers to protonated derivatives of this anion, including [H2W12O406-. The unprotonated anion [W12O408- has Td symmetry. [1]

One of four equivalent subunit of the M12O40 cage in metatungstate.
