Marcas District is one of eight districts of the Acobamba Province in Peru. [1]

Geography

One of the highest peaks of the district is Uma Kunka at approximately 4,000 m (13,000 ft). Other mountains are listed below: [2]

  • Mulli Pata
  • Parquy Urqu
  • P'iqiri
  • Qullqi Q'asa
  • Q'illu Urqu
  • Sapalluyuq
  • Silla Qucha
  • Tinyaq Urqu
  • Wik'uñayuq
  • Yana Urqu

Ethnic groups

The people in the district are mainly Indigenous citizens of Quechua descent. Quechua is the language which the majority of the population (80.31%) learnt to speak in childhood, 19.33% of the residents started speaking using the Spanish language ( 2007 Peru Census). [3]
