Korand ( Persian: كرند) [a] is a city in Dashli Borun District of Gonbad-e Kavus County, Golestan province, Iran. It is the former capital of Kerend Rural District, [4] before the capital was transferred to the village of Howtan. [5]
At the 2006 National Census, its population was 4,342 in 969 households, when it was village in Kerend Rural District. [6] The following census in 2011 counted 4,922 people in 1,249 households. [7] The latest census in 2016 showed a population of 5,616 people in 1,530 households. It was the most populous village in its rural district. [2]
After the census, the village of Korand was elevated to the status of a city. [5]
