  • See HABS No. IN-24-20, Whitewater Canal Aqueduct, 4BW, 1H, 4D, 1FN.
  • Significance: Covered wood aqueducts were never common, but there were reportedly several such structures on the Whitewater Canal, and some noteworthy examples once existed at places like Johnstown, Pennsylvania, and Washington, DC. The Duck Creek Aqueduct is the only surviving covered wood aqueduct in the United States. It still carries Whitewater Canal over Duck Creek and illustrates the widespread application of covered bridge technology to nineteenth century transportation systems.
