ICDSoft is a web hosting company founded in 1999. As of December 2023, it provides hosting for about 53,000 websites worldwide. [2] It provides shared and managed VPS hosting, enterprise solutions, email and reseller hosting, and domain registration. [3] In 2023, the company employed about 50 people. [4] The main and only office is located in Sofia, Bulgaria.

History

Тhe first step (registering the icdsoft.com domain name) was made on October 12, 1999 [5]. In 2000, the company started working in Hong Kong as a reseller of other hosting services. The company purchased its first own hosting server in 2001 and opened its headquarters in Sofia, Bulgaria, one year later. The Bulgarian company was founded in 2002 in Sofia by an employee, who later transferred the company rights to the actual founder, Dimitar Dimitrov. [6] Since 2016, the company has started using a reduced-hour working model of 6.5 hours a day (very close to the four-day working week model), which seeks to minimize commuting, optimize the overall productivity of the employees, and keep all team members happy. Server infrastructure and setup

The company offers Linux hosting in three data centers on three continents: in the United States ( North America), Hong Kong ( Asia), and Bulgaria ( Europe). [8] ICDSoft runs Apache, MySQL, PHP, and a highly-customized version of Debian. The company servers run on the Kernel-based Virtual Machine. [9]

ICDSoft has its in-house developed Control Panel which does not require licensing. [10] The Account Panel, similar in concept to WHMCS, is the in-house software that is provided to all customers to order and manage their services – hosting plans, domain names, SSL certificates, and upgrades. [11]

In 2018 and 2019, ICDSoft performed a major upgrade of its hardware platform, featuring the latest Xeon Gold processors, enterprise-grade RAID SSD storage arrays, and optimized 10 Gigabit Ethernet internal network connections. [12]

Products and services

ICDSoft provides web hosting services for almost all popular web-based software, e.g. WordPress, WooCommerce, Drupal, Joomla, Magento, PrestaShop. [13] [14]. With WordPress being one of the most popular platforms for building websites, ICDSoft has earned the independent "Top Tier WordPress Hosting Performance Award" for 2023. [15]

As a company deeply committed to environmental conservation, particularly when it comes to the beautiful and highly valuable forests of Bulgaria, ICDSoft has developed software (an innovative photo registry) to enhance accountability in timber transportation. The goal of the photo registry is to prevent and address incorrect assessments and inaccurate reporting of the quantities of transported timber. The software has been developed as a donation in favor of the Southwest State Enterprise (SSE) [16] and is part of the joint initiative between the two organizations to improve control and ensure full accountability for the timber harvested and transported from state-owned forests.

Marketing

ICDSoft never used conventional advertisement and always counted on the word-of-mouth phenomenon. [17] This is not a popular practice among web hosting companies but has always worked very well for ICDSoft.

In 2021, the founder of ICDSoft, Dimitar Dimitrov, decided to sponsor a young aviator, Zara Rutherford, who aimed to break the world record for youngest female pilot to fly solo around the world. [18] As a main sponsor, the logo of ICDSoft traveled around the world, boosting its brand awareness. In 2022, Zara's brother, Mack Rutherford, at the age of 16, began his own round-the-world trip in an ultralight aircraft, loaned by ICDSoft. [19] He became the youngest person to fly around the world when he arrived on August 24, 2022, at his starting point of Sofia, the home of his sole sponsor ICDSoft. [20]

On December 26, 2004, the 2004 Indian Ocean earthquake and tsunami tragedy occurred.
