Liliia But ( Ukrainian: Бут Лілія, born July 31, 1987), known professionally as Esphyr is a Ukrainian singer and songwriter. [1] Member of American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers, model, blogger, and producer of musical and fashion videos. [2] Last few years was publishing electronic music, including some collaborations with Tocadisco, Joachim Garraud, Jody Wisternoff, Erik de Koning, [3] Betoko, [4] and The Element. [5]
From an early age, Esphyr was fascinated by music. At school, she was constantly involved in various music groups and choirs. After studying at the university, she decided to take up music seriously. [6] She received her education at Berklee College of Music. [7] She performed on stage for the first time in 2013 in Sochi, but after the Russian invasion of Crimea and Donbas in 2014, she refused to perform on the territory of the Russian federation. [8] She lived in Denmark for a certain period of time, [9] where she worked, and since 2016, she started releasing tracks and remixes in the genres of electronic music and progressive house. [8] They were released under the Transpecta label, and later began publishing via Armada Music. [10][ unreliable source?] Her tracks were played on the radio, including BBC Radio 1, [11][ unreliable source?] and showed up in European charts. [12]
Shortly before the start of the full-scale invasion, Esphyr came to Ukraine. After the invasion broke out, she remained in Ukraine and engaged in volunteer activities. [8] Subsequently, she began to create her own lyrical tracks in the Ukrainian language — the song "Воїни Світла" ( English: "Warriors of Light") was released on May 26, 2022, and was dedicated to all Ukrainian defenders. [13] [14] An acoustic version was also released, as well as several more remixes from the singer's fellow DJs, [15] [16] including a remix from the Afterlife label artist — The Element. [17]
On June 24, 2022, Esphyr released the single "Made of Steel". [18] On August 9, she released the "Hi Mars!" song in English. [19] On December 16, the song "Назавжди" (English: "Forever") was released. [20]
"This song’s aim is a reminder that, even though military conflicts occur in various places in the world, people still go on with their lives" [21]
On July 20, the singer presented the song "Зоряне Дитя" (English: "Star Child"), [24] which is the Ukrainian-language version of the song "Fighter". [25] On August 19, she was a presenter at the 16th charity children's festival Амбасадор Дитинства (English: Ambassador of Childhood) together with Timur Miroshnychenko. [26] [27] The song "Сузір'я" (English: "Constellation") was released on August 17. [28] Also, some of the artist's songs showed up in Ukrainian charts. [29] In October, the remix of the song «Сузір'я» by a music producer Jandy was released. [30] [31]
