Pow Pow Press was created in 2015 by Luc Bossé, a comic book artist. It is the English division of the Montreal-base publisher Éditions Pow Pow. Pow Pow Press books are distributed in Canada by The Literary Press Group of Canada and in the United States by Lunar Distribution.
In 2010, after 10 years working in the advertisement industry, Luc Bossé takes part in one of Jimmy Beaulieu’s workshop where he meets other cartoonists like Zviane and Michel Hellman. Because he wants to share their work and some of his own, he decides to create his own publishing house: les Éditions Pow Pow. [1]
For the first five years, Pow Pow only published in French. In 2015, after a successful crowdfunding, [2] the English division is created to make the work of Quebec cartoonists available to English-speaking readers. [3] In May 2015, the first books are published: For as Long as It Rains, Vile and Miserable, Mile End and Vampire Cousins.
When asked about his editorial approach, Luc Bossé says it is, above all, the authors’ projects that shaped Pow Pow’s editorial line and personality. [3] The editor publishes authors who explore a wide range of genres: intimate, biographical, science-fictional, humorous, documentary, experimental and more. While Pow Pow's initial mission was to share Quebecois comics, the publisher has chosen to broaden its niche along the way. Pow Pow now also publishes foreign creators.
