Pastificio G. Di Martino, or more simply Pasta Di Martino, is an Italian pasta manufacturing company based in Gragnano. [1] [2]
In 1915, Giuseppe Di Martino established the pasta factory in Gragnano. [3] During the 1940s, under the fascist regime, the pasta factory was compelled to change its business name to "Pastificio Impero". [4]
In 1980, a severe earthquake damaged the company, but pasta production, after a brief period of stop, has continued. [5]
In 2012, the Di Martino Group acquired the "Antonio Amato" pasta factory and celebrated its centennial anniversary. [6] In 2015, the first mono-brand store opened at Naples Capodichino Airport, [7] followed by other stores at the airports of Rome and Bologna in 2017. [8]
Under the guidance of chef Peppe Guida, the "Sea Front Pasta Bar" restaurant was inaugurated in Naples in 2017. [9] In the same year, the Group acquired the Emilian company "Grandi Pastai", [10] expanding production to stuffed, fresh, frozen pasta, and ambient gnocchi.
In 2018, a dining space was opened at "F.I.C.O. Eataly World" in Bologna. [11] Dolce&Gabbana designed a new look for Di Martino pasta in 2018. In 2020, the Group became the main sponsor of the San Carlo Theater in Naples, and in 2021, the first store in New York City, “La Devozione” was opened. [12] [13]
Gragnano pasta, celebrated for its centuries-old tradition, is recognized as one of the finest globally. Gragnano, known as the "City of Pasta," epitomizes its significant role in pasta excellence. [14] [15]
In 2016, Pastificio di Martino launched the "Primo di Manhattan" event in collaboration with the first Italian chef competition to recognize Manhattan's best pasta dish. An international jury of food experts was involved in the judging process. [16]
In 2017, Di Martino pasta underwent a significant visual transformation, courtesy of the creativity of Dolce & Gabbana, who adorned it with representations of the entirety of Italy. During that year, the two Italian brands collaborated with the aim of promoting excellence in Italian craftsmanship on a global scale. [17]
In 2021 the brand launched a Barbie-inspired collection, drawing inspiration from the iconic doll, in line with the trend observed in other food sector brands as well. [18]
Since 2021, Pastificio di Martino has held the official designation of supporter for Slow Food Italy, actively promoting the local region and championing the principles of good, clean, and fair food in conjunction with the Slow Food Italia association. [19]
