The Inland Waterways Amenity and Advisory Council (IWAAC) was a statutory body in the United Kingdom that advised the government and navigation authorities on the use and development of inland waterways. It was established under the Transport Act 1968 and abolished in 2012, following an initial announcement in July 2010. IWAAC played an important role in the development of inland waterways for leisure use in the UK. [3] It was responsible for advising the British Waterways Board and the Secretary of State for the Environment on the use and development of inland waterways for amenity and recreation [4], including:
IWAAC has published reports [6] which include using inland waterways to tackle social exclusion, funding and income sources for a selection or overseas waterways, insights into the funding of inland waterways in Britain, balancing the needs of navigation and aquatic wildlife, awareness and appreciation of the canal network in Scotland, reducing carbon dioxide emissions by moving more freight onto inland waterways.
