[3]

Controversies

In late October 2022,  a little over a week before election day, Clyde Shavers' father, Brett Shavers, released a statement about ongoing allegations of dishonesty involving his son's military career and other claims made by the Shavers campaign. [5] In the statement, Brett Shavers admonished his son for lying about being a nuclear submarine captain during his naval career. Clyde Shavers was an officer in the U.S. Navy and attended the Navy Nuclear Power School in the early 2010s; however, records show that at no point was he ever promoted to a Nuclear Submarine Captain despite later claims of being so. [6]

In addition, Brett Shavers also accused his son of lying about being raised on a farm, a lack of genuine connection to the legislative district where he was running for office, and his son's claim of having been a practicing lawyer despite not having passed the bar exam needed to become one. [5] Lending credibility to the allegations, a local newspaper, the Everett Herald, rescinded a previous endorsement given to Shavers for his political campaign. [7]

Legislative Achievements

HB 1985 - Increasing Retirement Benefits: Increases retirement benefits for teachers and public employees under TRS Plan 1 and PERS Plan 1. [8] HB 2308 - Affordable Housing Tax Incentives: Provides tax incentives for converting underutilized commercial properties into affordable housing. [9] HB 2326 - Health Care Curriculum Development: Develops healthcare curriculums in high schools. [10] HB 1658 - Financial Education and Work Experience Credit: Promotes financial literacy and allows students to earn academic credit for paid work experience. [11]
