Chaman District ( Pashto: چمن ولسوالۍ, Balochi: چمن دمگ, Urdu: ضلع چمن) is a district of Balochistan Province, Pakistan. [1] [2] Chaman District was created after the bifurcation of Qila Abdullah District in 2021. [2] [3]
Chaman District is also known as the 'dry port' for China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) projects.
It contains the following Tehsils: [2] [3]
Sardar Asghar Khan Achakzai, a member of Awami National Party, was the former MPA in Chaman District (2018-2023). Recently, Capt. (R) Juma Dad Mandokhail has been appointed as the first Deputy Commissioner of the district.
At the time of the 2017 census the district had 49,798 households and a population of 434,561. Chaman had a sex ratio of 891 females per 1000 males and a literacy rate of 45.50%: 59.54% for males and 29.80% for females. 28.35% (123,206) of the population lived in urban areas. 37.95% of the population was under 10 years of age. 0.26% (1,140) of the population was from religious minorities.
Pashto was the predominant language, spoken by 97.72% of the population. [4]
