The World Health Organization defines Asperger syndrome (AS) as one of the ASDs, which are a spectrum disorder that are characterized by abnormalities of social interaction and communication that pervade functioning, and by restricted and repetitive interests and behavior. Since 2019, the World Health Organization classifies Asperger’s Disorder and other pervasive developmental disorders with the umbrella diagnosis of autism spectrum disorder, in line with the DSM-5.
