Class of excavate protists
Anaeromonadea , also known as Preaxostyla ,

[2] is a
class of
excavate
protists , comprising the
oxymonads ,
Trimastix ,
[3] and
Paratrimastix .
[4] This group is studied as a model system for reductive evolution of
mitochondria ,
[5] because it includes both organisms with anaerobic mitochondrion-like organelles (
Trimastix
[6] and
Paratrimastix
[7] ), and those that have completely lost their
mitochondria (
oxymonads
Monocercomonoides ,
[8]
Streblomastix , and
Blattamonas
[6] ).
