In the 2000–2001 season, Peter crouch emerged as a future star but despite this QPR were relegated to the third tier for the first time since 1967, Manager Gerry Francis was fired a day after a 5-nil defeat to Wimbledon and replaced not by Vinnie Jones but Ian Dowie
