During the 1969β70 season Fiorentina competed in Serie A, Coppa Italia and European Cup.
The club as incumbent Champion started the leagu with 4 consecutive won matches, however, it was Cagliari from Luigi Riva, which clinched the Serie A. Head coach Bruno Pesaola [1] and the squad reached a decent 5th place, and qualified to the 1970-71 Inter-Cities Fairs Cup. [2]
Meanwhile, in European Cup the squad defeated the Swedish club Γster IF in first round, and Dynamo Kyiv in eightfinals, only to be eliminated in quarterfinals by Scottish Celtic Glasgow; in Coppa Italia the squad was eliminated by Varese also in quarterfinals stage in the last season for Amarildo playing with the club. Forward Luciano Chiarugi scored 19 goals being the season club top scorer. [4] [5]
