The Louisville Barnstar
This new barnstar goes out to all the great work performed by Wikipedians on Louisville area-related articles ever since the beginning of Wikipedia. Because of you, Louisville is on the map! And it's only getting better. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 09:00, 13 January 2024 (UTC) reply

WikiProject Unreferenced articles | February 2024 Backlog Drive

There is a substantial backlog of unsourced articles on Wikipedia, especially for United States-related articles! The purpose of this drive is to add sources to these articles and make a meaningful impact towards improving Wikipedia as a whole.

  • Barnstars will be awarded based on the number of articles cited.
  • Remember to tag your edit summary with [[WP:FEB24]], both to advertise the event and tally the points later using Edit Summary Search.

The above is about focus on our greatest referencing needs at the moment, but of course, as this project is long aware of the cleanup listings, any improvement that resolves a cleanup tag is welcome. We have a huge cleanup backlog. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 01:13, 23 January 2024 (UTC) reply

While the above are project-priority articles that need additional cites, I've been informed that to actually receive points in the drive, participants are supposed to add references to articles that don't have any. So, here's our current list of those articles within our project:

  1. Bernheim Original

  3. Digby (band)
  4. Ford Tennis Championships

Anyone using project-wide change patrol?

Is anyone who does WP Louisville work using project-wide change patrol ("ALL PROJECT PAGES" and links under it)? If not, due to performance issues in updating the mammoth page it depends on, I may need to indefinitely deprecate this feature. If anyone does use it, I need to see if I can get a bot to do the updates to that mammoth page, although I don't know in advance if that will be possible. At any rate, please let me know here if you use it. Thanks! Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 20:10, 18 February 2024 (UTC) reply

Today I figured out how to get a bot to generate the list of included pages, and perhaps even update it daily. So this may be resolved, and I won't have to deprecate this feature. Enjoy! Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 06:10, 7 March 2024 (UTC) reply

Reorg and expansion of "Lists, logs and query results"

On our Resources page, I have reorganized various useful lists, logs and query results as tabular data with enhanced descriptions and usage information, and through some research, have expanded what's available. With these lists and such, WikiProject Louisville participants can be more productive with particular project tasks. Examples are lists of articles with the oldest issues, articles that may have too few categories, stubs that are our oldest or largest, etc. If anyone has questions about these lists, or has ideas for other lists that would help them be more productive in our project tasks, please discuss them here. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 21:26, 24 February 2024 (UTC) reply

Update: As of now, all of these lists, logs and query results are automatically generated by bots or your clicks. None of them require any manual intervention, unless there is a bug of some sort. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 05:09, 14 March 2024 (UTC) reply

Derby 150 Edit-a-thon?

Is anyone up for an edit-a-thon to celebrate Derby 150? Here's a few ideas I have about doing this:

  1. Run it during the Kentucky Derby Festival – April 20 ( Thunder Over Louisville) through May 4/5 (Derby Weekend)
  2. The work would be focused in 3 areas, from highest to lowest priority:
    1. Improving and creating Derby-related articles
    2. Cleaning up known issues in WP Louisville and WP Kentucky articles (there are thousands!)
    3. Generally improving and/or creating articles within these projects
  3. As there is international interest in the Derby, especially this one, this could be fortuitous timing for our needs. It would make good sense to inform the entire Wiki community about it.

Thoughts? There's not a lot of time to organize it, but I think it's doable. We could create a one-pager for the event, perhaps hostable in WP Louisville. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 06:33, 30 March 2024 (UTC) reply

As there hasn't been any feedback, I'll just say that as of now, I'm settling toward making this a fairly simple drive, calling it the "Kentucky Derby 150 Article Development and Backlog Drive", including:
  1. Creating/expanding some needed Derby-related articles (list to be generated)
  2. Expanding/improving existing Derby-related articles as much as possible, moving toward at least C or B grades
  3. Working through issues backlogs in WP Louisville and WP Kentucky
Participants who work on any of the above would be asked to tag their edits for the drive (probably with [[WP:DERBY150]], which will link to the drive's page), and upon review of the edits, the participants would receive either the Louisville or Kentucky barnstars (whichever is most applicable) with a message thanking them for participating in the drive.
As for a drive goal, I would probably keep it modest, to say the goal is to have 500 or 1,000 total edits completed. And if that number is succeeded, all the better. Maybe we could have a daily tracker for this.
I'm undecided on whether there would be a formal signup list, but at the very least I'd like for the entire wiki community to know about the drive, as there is some degree of international interest in the Derby. To that end, a system message would be sent out.
As before, your thoughts are welcome. Stefen Towers among the rest! GabGruntwerk 07:42, 12 April 2024 (UTC) reply
