It seems wasteful and higher maintenance to have these two categories largely duplicating each other. The latter is more consistent with hundreds of other similar categories for countries and regions, so I suggest that the former should be merged into the latter - this would require a change in {{ WikiProject Germany}} but not a massive amount of work. I'm tentatively proposing they should be merged at WP:CFD; I suppose an argument can be made for making a distinction on the grounds of the name of the former category having a wider scope than the latter (to include biographies etc; also the former says "images" but in practice it appears in almost all cases this just means "photographs") but I am sure that just using the latter category for the lot won't be too confusing. In any case, both categories are rather large and should probably be subcategorized - I wonder if this can be done by editing {{ WikiProject Germany}} so that instead of just saying that a photo is required, a photo subcategory could be specified in some way (e.g. writing "in Berlin" as a template parameter and the template then adding it to a Berlin photo required subcategory). That's just a suggestion - the CFD nom is here. This is in no way an act of aggression against this project :p Just wondering if this would cut down maintenance and make the categories easier to use. Depends on how much work it is. Anyway I made the infobox generated a subcategory of the other some time back. If that change is coming it would be an idea to tag the articles in the topcategory for the wikiproject as I believe there are qutie a number still in there which are not tagged yet. I have been busying myself translating articles about every municipality in this district into English from the German Wikipedia, but there is one little technical problem that I would like some help with. Whoever uploaded the images for de:WP apparently neglected to upload them to the Commons. Could someone do that, or otherwise make them appear in en:WP?

I would do this myself, but I'm working through a proxy from China and it can be glacially slow, and moreover, it sometimes won't let me download images if the file is too big.

Not sure how to report that correctly, but there is a Category:Turks_in_Germany and an article Turks in Germany and a List of Turkish Germans which could be merged together in a way. Why are all articles that contain a "List of Turkish People in..." in the Category:Articles_for_deletion. There is no article with the Kategorie:Deutsch-Türke in the german wikipedia, most of the articles categorize them as german or turkish or both. For example is Fatih Akin, a german with turkish roots because he was born in Germany and is a german citizen. Maybe better tag someone like him with Category:German and Category:People of turkish descent. And maybe with Turks in Germany. What do you think? ( JohnWulgaru 00:03, 16 November 2007 (UTC))

A specific group of people on wikipedia dictated translation and usage of nearly all central/eastern European names in Polish language. Anne of Swidnica is just one of many, where a German Holy Roman Empire queen http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Anne_of_%C5%9Awidnica#Empress_Anna_von_Schweidnitz is featured in Wikipedia with a Polish name.

The particular Wikipedia absurdity with this person is, that google books has over 600 books with Anna von Schweidnitz, 300 Anne of Schweidnitz, yet Wikipedia shows her as Anne of Swidnica, which has 1 -o n e- entry on google book search. That is probably the "correct" name according to our naming conventions. However, the implicit assumption of bad faith against our Polish contributors in the statement opening this section was quite unnecessary, and Anne of Świdnica appears to be a possible name for her, chosen by the original author who does not seem to be involved in any sort of Polish conspiracy. FWIW, I created the missing redirects Anne of Swidnica and Anna Svídnická. Oh, and we should use Polish diacritics wherever necessary, just as we should use the ß whenever necessary. We observed a strong movement towards Polish naming some decades ago (within the detente context?) like when the Ministers of Culture "agreed" to use endonyms for former German cities (Breslau becoming Wroclaw etc, in German atlasses). Hi All, great work, this Germay project & portal!

When I encountered it, I immediately wantd to cooperate (even if I heve only little time to spend on it). But then I was beginning to be disappointed. I met an article out of my hobbies, requested for translation ( DELAG) the translation of which was completed one year ago! Then the unreferenced articles - they are referenced a lot. (Or did I misunderstand in what way they should be referenced?) Then the requested articles page - so many blue links!

I think you haven't got enough time (any more) for the whole project (I know how it comes to this situation, I know too well...) so I think either you (we) clean up the requests or we delete (or temporarily remove) the pages which are old and unmaintained.

The requests page is very difficult to keep interesting. Unfortunately I can't devote enough of my time to Wikipedia at present, so I just hope somebody comes, sees work that needs doing and does it (after all, this is how I became involved in the Germany portal). If you see something that needs to be cleaned up and you can do it, just be bold and do it; when others see that something new is done, they will come and help. For those who don't already know, Durova ( talk · contribs) is offering a special WikiProject triple crown (a variant of the original triple crown) as part of a major improvement drive:

"To qualify, the WikiProject must have five or more members who qualify for a standard triple crown on the basis of editing work for that project."

That basically means we need five people who each have at least 1 GA, 1 FC, and 1 DYK to come forward.

So far, only one project has scored the triple crown: WikiProject Australia. So does this project have enough top contributors to qualitfy? - 52 Pickup 08:20, 4 December 2007 (UTC)

have just read an article from your project and followed the links to here. it was obvious that the article in english was written by a german speaker, translating from his native language. many sentences were difficult to understand, some unintelligable. could your project not recruit someone to check the english of these entries. If you name the articles, someone can have a look at them. I usually check additions to articles that are on my watchlist and I expect others do the same, but unfortunately, it is not possible to check every article. Done. Since the template is protected, I've made the changes over at the /test page. If you copy that code completely over to the template page then it should work. Or maybe it should be set to "Road=yes"? The objectives of the group appear a little contradictory at the moment, since its page says that the project deals with all transportation types AND just the road system. So which is it? I've just modified the test template further so at the moment it contains two possibilities: "Roads=yes" or "Transport=yes". SORRY! :(.. All I wanted to do was make a cool box thing for German road talk pages and eventually track status on my Division/Task Force pages. That was all I could think of to make one that looked cool. Sorry if it caused problems. I did not think it did more than put a pretty picture on a talk page. I some one could please tell me the CORRECT way to build a template that would be greatly appreciated :) My purpose here is to build and maintain a substantial article base on the German road ways on English Wikipedia as I am an English Speaker and have driven Almost Everywhere in Germany and that combination is rare. For starters you can help by clearly defining the scope of your taskforce and then get a force together. A one man band is not much of a force. You might want to join WikiProject Highways which will give you ideas and help on how to develop road related articles. And please place a {{tl:db-owner}} on the project template to save it having to go to TfD. If you want to tag articles please use the "Transport=yes" switch in the general template. The tag only works on the test template at the moment. The general template is protected and I'm not an admin so the necessary changes still need to be made there (copy over either the Roads or Transport option from the test template). For the last few months I've been working on Flag of Germany. In July it looked like this and now it looks like this. In working on this article, I've drawn on a number of articles that can now possibly be merged into this one (see various mergefrom requests now in the article) plus a number of articles from the German wiki, and a few other sources, while at the same time trying to provide as many supporting references as possible. I am very interested in getting this article up to GA (or even FA?) standard so I would appreciate it if people could proofread it and/or expand/clarify any points that may need attention. Not long ago, I managed to get this article past GA review. If anyone has any thoughts on how the article can be improved further up to FA level, then come forward. I also set up a peer review (see link on article's talk page) in an attempt to generate more feedback but that is pretty quiet. The varying standards of other FA flag articles doesn't suggesting anything else to me. The article looks very good, and has even features I did not know yet (proposed alternative flags). Maybe the order should be re-arranged, with history coming before technical details or flag days, which result from history. As there are precedents in Wikipedia:Featured_articles#Awards.2C_decorations_and_vexillology, but also in Wikipedia:Former_featured_articles#Awards.2C_decorations_and_vexillology, maybe you should just put it up at Wikipedia:Featured article candidates, and we'll see what is asked by the reviewers? --  Matthead   Discuß   19:22, 25 January 2008 (UTC)

There are no set rules for the ordering of sections within flag articles, but it appears that technical details are close to the top (eg. see FA articles Flag of Portugal and Flag of Australia) but flag days can possibly be moved down. The GA/A/FA requirements for heraldry/vexillology articles are not clear (although the requirements for A-class are not really clear anywhere - i don't even know if it would qualify for A-class here at WPGER). But if you look at GA-Class heraldry and vexillology articles, A-Class heraldry and vexillology articles and FA-Class heraldry and vexillology articles you can see that the standards of the flag articles listed here are not all that uniform. I would like to nominate the article for FA some time soon, but I think it is best to make sure that the article spends enough time at peer review since that appears to be a pseudo-requirement for FA - see Wikipedia:Peer review/Flag of Germany. There are already a couple of outstanding issues there that I need to address, but real world committments are getting in my way at the moment. - 52 Pickup ^(deal) 07:32, 30 January 2008 (UTC)

Thanks for that. A separate section on symbols used in the flag was suggested by the FA review. The tricky part is figuring out what belongs in the flag article and what in the separate Coat of arms of Germany article. Unfortunately I will be going on a long break very soon so I won't be able to make this suggested change at this point, but these links should help when I get back. If anyone has time and inclination to offer a hand, the article on Lea Rosh was brought to the attention of the volunteers at WP:BLPN as repeatedly receiving unsourced or poorly sourced controversial information. The editor who noted the issue has evidently removed the material, or the worst of it, but I believe the article would benefit tremendously from the contribution of a disinterested party who can read the source material as I (being relatively monolingual) cannot.
