With the success of the recent Wicnics in different cities, I was thinking that we should pursue more national multi-events, maybe on a quarterly basis ( Wikipedia:Meetup/US, anyone?). We already have Wiknic for the summer, and Wikipedia Day in January for the winter. For the fall, perhaps we could do a series of microconferences at public libraries anchored by a shared TedX-like keynote simulcast...-- Pharos ( talk) 21:38, 5 July 2011 (UTC)

June 23 is MID summer? Who knew?! 66.105.218.10 ( talk) 05:57, 18 June 2012 (UTC)
OK, I hate to ruin the party, but the primary definition of "midsummer" is INDEED, "middle of summer":
http://www.merriam-webster.com/dictionary/midsummer
http://www.thefreedictionary.com/midsummer
The "solstice" one (and the St. John's one 3 days later) is secondary. Pharos almost had me there for a while!
I have made the appropriate change. I will take up the matter in detail over on the midsummer page. 66.105.218.21 ( talk) 08:38, 21 June 2012 (UTC)

Would people PULLLLEASE stop trying to slip "midsummer" into this article. It is, at best, ambiguous, and at worst, incorrect. Unless the picnic has been moved to August 10th, it is NOT "midsummer".
Also, I changed the phrase "weekend before the 4th of July" to "week or two before..." b/c the example given (23 June) simply DIDN'T MATCH. Was the original description incorrect or was this year's wiknic indeed originally slated for June 30th (the "weekend before")?
To which I must question the line about Turing's Centennial being a "happy coincidence". If the 23rd was chosen instead of the intended 30th, well then, what was the reason? It strikes me as plausible that the 23rd was chosen specifically to make it land on Turing. Anyone know? 66.105.218.16 ( talk) 20:12, 21 June 2012 (UTC)
