It seems I was never notified about this

I'm not entirely sure if this is the proper location for this note, but it seems I was never notified that a sockpuppet investigation involving me had been proposed. Nobody pinged me (if the {{ checkuser}} template sends a notification, I never received one and none are listed on my Special:Notifications page), and nobody left a note on my talk page as I've seen done in the past. I want to note this here, lest my silence in the discussion earlier this week be held against me later. Srey Sros talk 07:34, 30 May 2021 (UTC) reply

Additionally, it seems like the same thing happened back in December with another (!) SPI involving me. Is it common practice to conduct an SPI without the subject's knowledge? This is rather disturbing to stumble across. Srey Sros talk 18:51, 30 May 2021 (UTC) reply
@ SreySros: from what I've gathered, it's generally not considered necessary to ping suspected socks in an SPI. Elli ( talk | contribs) 21:38, 30 May 2021 (UTC) reply
It's true that we don't notify accused users by default or encourage people to do so. @ SreySros, I'm sorry that this process felt disturbing to you, but there are a few good reasons that we do so. I'm away from my computer right now, but I can provide a more detailed explanation for the reasons behind this practice at a later date if you would like. -- Blablubbs| talk 22:07, 30 May 2021 (UTC) reply
