Terminology

Ski resorts are the businesses that offer skiing or snowboarding along with supporting services, usually on managed land. Ski areas are the physical land where skiing or snowboarding is allowed or occurring. Articles should only be made for ski resorts. Ski areas are not to be confused with articles of mountains.

Naming Convention

Athletes and People

Articles about anybody who is alive must follow Wikipedia:Biographies of living persons. While all articles about people should follow Wikipedia:Manual of Style/Biography.

Ski Resorts

These pages should include the ski area infobox and have sections for history, terrain (with a lift subsection), events (if applicable), and snowfall.

The terrain section should include # of trails, skiable area, snowmaking coverage, mountain elevations, # of trails for each ability level, and # of special trails (like terrain parks or night skiing). As well as any other information related to the skiable terrain of a resort.

The lift subsection should contain a table with columns for name, type, year, make, vertical, length, and capacity (in that order). An additional column can be added for resort specific designation systems like letters or numbers before the name column if it exists in addition to a name.

  • The "type" column is for the type of lift ( High Speed Quad, Gondola, etc.), it does not have to be wikilinked.
  • The "year" column is for the year that the lift began operation.
  • The "make" column is for the manufacturer ( Doppelmayr, Poma, etc.)
  • The "vertical" column is for the vertical rise, Template:Convert should be used.
  • The "length" column should use Template:Convert.
  • The "capacity" column should be defined for passengers/hr.

Events and Competitions

Olympics

Olympic specific articles should follow the Manual of Style set by WikiProject Olympics for events and sports. (Note that their pages are currently under construction).
