Tasks to do

The Task tables is a system of notifying members of who is working on what table and priority. The theory is to elevate all communities in Iowa to respectable levels for the type of community and to avoid members working on the same table (city, county, township) at the same time. You are able to "check out" (like a library book) and then copy and paste the table into your own sandbox. When you have completed the task for that table or if decide to stop working on the task you can "check back in" the table with whatever progress you have made. We will then have a record so the next member can continue on.

Explanation of the table columns and abbreviated column headings.

These next 3 lines are in every table and explanations are in the column code.
The 1st line is title line , the 2nd line is description of maximum space requirements.
|Name of Community|| 2000 Pop. || 2010 Pop.|| P1 || P2 || P3 || I / C Class || I / C Scale || Notes
| use [[city, state]] || 0000,000 || 000,000 ||{{Done-t|xx}}||{{Done-t|xx}}||{{Done-t|xx}}||FA/FA||Top/High||blank

  • Name of Community = Name of Community (already in table)
  • 2000 Pop = 2000 Population (already in table)
  • 2010 Pop = 2010 Population (data to be inputted)

Coordinates for communities

The {{ Coord}} template is used to standardize the presentation of coordinates (latitude and longitude) in Wikipedia articles. Complete documentation for the {{ Coord}} template is at Template:Coord/doc. {{ Coord}} can place coordinates in the text of an article, in the title area (top right corner), or in both places. Coordinates can also appear in infoboxes.

Per Wikipedia:WikiProject Cities/US Guideline, if a community's article has an infobox, then the community's overall coordinates should appear there and not in the body of the article. (Coordinates of specific features within the community may still appear in the body.)

  • All incorporated cities of Iowa now have {{ Infobox settlement}}, so their coordinates should be coded there. Once this is done, any overall coordinates in the body of the article (including the Geography section) should be removed.
  • Articles about townships and unincorporated communities should eventually use {{ Infobox settlement}}. Please add infoboxes to these articles if they don't have it. Once the overall coordinates are coded in the infobox, they can be removed from the body of the article.
  • {{ Infobox U.S. county}}, however, does not provide parameters for specifying coordinates. Articles about counties should therefore use the {{ Coord}} template. {{ Coord}} can be placed anywhere in an article. It often appears in the Geography section or just before the categories. (See User:Dispenser for a partial explanation.)
  • The Geographic Names Information System is a good source for Iowa coordinates.
  • Please don't specify coordinates with excessive precision. Note that 0.0001 degree is less than 35 feet and 1 second is less than 100 ft.

{{ Infobox settlement}} uses the following parameters:

  • |latd= // degrees of latitude (non-negative number)
  • |latm= // minutes of latitude (non-negative number less than 60)
  • |lats= // seconds of latitude (non-negative number less than 60)
  • |latNS= // N for "North"
  • |longd= // degrees of longitude (non-negative number)
  • |longm= // minutes of longitude (non-negative number less than 60)
  • |longs= // seconds of longitude (non-negative number less than 60)
  • |longEW= // W for "West"
  • |coor_pinpoint= // what coordinates refer to, if known (e.g. Town Hall)
  • |coordinates_type= // for township type:adm3rd_region:US-IA; otherwise leave blank
  • |coordinates_display= // inline,title
  • |coordinates_footnotes= // reference(s) for coordinates, placed within <ref> </ref>

{{ Coord}} recognizes many formats, including:

  • The basic degree-minute format, displayed in title area only:
{{Coord|degrees|minutes|latitude(N/S)| degrees|minutes |longitude(E/W)|display=title}}
  • The basic decimal-degree format, displayed in title area only:
{{Coord|00.000|-00.000|display=title}}

{{ Coord}} also accepts an additional positional parameter containing coordinate parameters:

  • Use "|region:US-IA_type:adm1st for a state like Iowa
  • Use "|region:US-IA_type:adm2nd" for an Iowa county.
  • Use "|region:US-IA_type:adm3rd" for an Iowa township.
  • Use "|region:US-IA_type:city" for an Iowa city, town, or unincorporated community with unspecified population.
  • Use "|region:US-IA_type:city(nnn)" for an Iowa city, town, or unincorporated community with population nnn.

See the {{ Coord}} documentation at Template:Coord/doc for more coordinate parameters. There are 19 parameters just for type. Note that coordinate parameters may appear in any order, separated by underscores. They must not contain spaces, stiles, or equal-signs.

Examples

State of Iowa

{{Coord|display=title|42|N|93|W|region:US-IA_type:adm1st_scale:3000000}}
Note: "_scale:3000000" overrides the default map scale for type:adm1st.

Scott County, Iowa

{{coord|41|38|09|N|90|38|02|W|region:US-IA_type:adm2nd_source:dewiki|display=title}}
Note: "_source:dewiki" indicates that the coordinates were copied from the German Wikipedia.

...
|latd = 42 |latm = 2 |lats = 52 |latNS = N
|longd = 91 |longm = 41 |longs = 12 |longEW = W

Berwick, Iowa (unincorporated community without an infobox)

Assessment

Assesment of the articles by Class and importance.

Table and information for the communities workgroup will be coming in the future.
Interesting assessment facts as of 2010-12-27
Unincorporated communities and townships assessment

Classification of articles Stub to and through C-Class is subjective.
The following classifications are for communities division only.

  • Stub would be any article started with a lede (lead for american english) statement.
  • Quality Stub
    infobox with name, coordinate information, subdivisions information, time zone, Zip code, GNIS code #
    history (brief - preferably date established and explanation of name choice)
    transportation (main roads)
    references
    county template
  • Quality Stub for townships would also include a description of any communities located within it's borders
  • Start-Class would have an expanded history
    geography (water ways, land formations)
    demographics
    expand transportation (railroads, airports trails)
    demographics
    parks and recreation
    notable people if applicable.
  • Quality Start to be determined.
  • C-Class to be determined

|Name of Community|| 2000 Pop. || 2010 Pop.|| P1 || P2 || P3 || I / C Class || I / C Scale || Notes
| use [[city, state]] || 0000,000 || 000,000 ||{{Done-t|xx}}||{{Done-t|xx}}||{{Done-t|xx}}||FA/FA||Top/High||blank

  • Name of Community = Name of Community (already in table)
  • 2000 Pop = 2000 Population (already in table)
  • 2010 Pop = 2010 Population (data to be inputted)

The Priorities explanation can be found at Wikipedia:WikiProject Iowa/Communities/Priorities
The first goal is raise all incorporated cities articles to Priority 1 level starting with the Large cities first.

  • P1 = Priority one (input the template {{Done-t|user# from the members table}} when completed)
  • P2 = Priority two (input the template {{Done-t|user# from the members table}} when completed)
  • P3 = Priority three (input the template {{Done-t|user# from the members table}} when completed)
  • I / C Class = Article class Project Iowa / Project Cities (default is stub, may be eliminated)
  • I / C Scale = Article Importance Scale Project Iowa / Project Cities ( may be eliminated)

{{Coord|degrees|minutes|latitude(N/S)| degrees|minutes |longitude(E/W)|display=title}}
  • The basic decimal-degree format, displayed in title area only:
{{Coord|00.000|-00.000|display=title}}

Unincorporated communities and townships assessment

Classification of articles Stub to and through C-Class is subjective.
The following classifications are for communities division only.

  • Stub would be any article started with a lede (lead for american english) statement.
  • Quality Stub
    infobox with name, coordinate information, subdivisions information, time zone, Zip code, GNIS code #
    history (brief - preferably date established and explanation of name choice)
    transportation (main roads)
    references
    county template
  • Quality Stub for townships would also include a description of any communities located within it's borders
  • Start-Class would have an expanded history
    geography (water ways, land formations)
    demographics
    expand transportation (railroads, airports trails)
    demographics
    parks and recreation
    notable people if applicable.
  • Quality Start to be determined.
  • C-Class to be determined
