The History Workgroup is a working group of members of the
Bangladesh WikiProject dedicated to ensuring quality and coverage of Bangladesh history related articles.
By definition the land of Bangladesh prior to
1971 was known as
East Pakistan and
East Bengal; was a part of
Bengal Presidency,
Bengal, and
Suba Bangal; and, was a collection of small lands like
Vanga,
Gauda and
Pundra. This project will encompass all of these identities, some of which overlap with
History of India,
History of Pakistan and
History of the Commonwealth.
The aim of this project is to standardize, improve and monitor articles related to History of Bangladesh, as well as to create missing articles, especially after the Independence of Bangladesh in 1971. The scope of the project also applies to History of Bengal articles.
If a historical person's/ dynasty's/ state's name is not unique, please, create a disambiguation page for the name.
You can begin by contributing to the following periods of history of Bangladesh (including separate subsections or even separate articles): (1) Pre-historic Bangladesh; (2) Hindu-Buddhist period; (3) Muslim period; (4) Colonial period; (5) Pakistani period; (6) Independent Bangladesh.
The biggest event in Bangladesh history,
the Liberation War, needs particular attention. It needs a complete
timeline, plenty images (preferably with use permission from copyright holders), much better work on
1971 Bangladesh atrocities (including
Operation Searchlight) and
Mukti Bahini (including separate entries for the sectors and forces outside the Niomita Bahini), a complete list of
Recipients of Bangladeshi military awards in 1971 (preferably separate biographies for all the recipients) and more. The categorization system needs much work as well.
In historical articles, the past tense is strongly advised. While history can be written in the present tense, the general audience of Wikipedia will usually expect the past tense on historical subjects and events that occurred in the past. The present tense in English is only correctly used to describe past events in a work of fiction. This is referred to as the "historical past tense". For historical biographies make use of the {{ Infobox Biography}} template.
