Welcome to WikiProject Digital Preservation. This project was formed to improve Wikipedia's coverage of digital preservation and the organization of information and articles on this topic. It was initiated by members of the National Digital Stewardship Alliance (NDSA), but participation by digital preservation practitioners everywhere is encouraged. If you would like to help, please join the project, inquire on the talk page and see the open tasks below.

Scope

The scope of this project is to reorganize and revise the content of the current Digital Preservation article so that it reflects the current state of the field and is better suited to ongoing updating and editing. We will also review related articles to determine their content and relationship to the main article. A further goal of this effort is to include links to relevant standards and best practices in the field of digital preservation.

An outline of the proposed organization of the new article and a page showing proposed new and revised content have been made available as Google documents:

Revised outline: https://docs.google.com/a/apps.cul.columbia.edu/document/d/1zHAQN_S3ib_JntlXu1gljN4oLU002b3wdocFjCXHsvI/edit

Proposed new content: https://docs.google.com/a/apps.cul.columbia.edu/document/d/1efjrPtREvTdz8TN2KfuZ4GlarqEEfImFC7wGQYm4PNo/edit

These links and a discussion of the project have also been posted to the article's Talk page.

Anyone with comments or suggestions about the outline should feel free to comment on this article's Talk Page or contact wikipresarticle [at] libraries.cul.columbia.edu

Our current strategy is to insert new and revised content piecemeal, reorganizing the structure gradually rather than reformulating the entire article at once.

Open tasks

This project will improve the digital preservation article (this article acts as a portal to the articles tracked by this project) and selected related articles, and assess the quality of the unassessed pages.

Contributors will also be encouraged to: spread the word about this project, identify or create missing articles, add expert knowledge to improve an article, expand a stub, add or improve references in an article, help to resolve a dispute, ask or answer a question, assess an article's quality, etc.

Participants

Please feel free to add yourself here if you'd like to participate. You can add {{ Wikipedia:WikiProject Digital Preservation/Userbox}} to your user page to show that you are a member of this project.

Review and assessment

Assessment of Digital Preservation Articles

Articles are assessed using the system and definitions developed as part of Wikipedia 1.0. This project rates articles by quality but not by importance. This scale is useful for tracking the progress of articles from the low end of unassessed or stubs through the high end of featured articles.

Articles are assessed by placing or updating a quality assessment on the talk page of an article. Anyone can rate an article. The only exceptions are the Good Article and Featured Article quality grades. These should only be added to articles which have been through the standard Wikipedia Good Article Nomination and Featured Article Candidacy procedures.
