The terms "NFL player" and "American Football League player" are not mutually exclusive. Some men played oly in the NFL, some played only in the American Football League, and some played in both, or even both plus other leagues. For example, {{ Infobox NFL player}} omits or incorrectly lists information on NFL players who also played in the American Football League. Rather than having "American Football League only" or "NFL only" templates, the following should be used:

• {{ Infobox pro football player}} and
• {{ Infobox Pro Football player retired}}
