This week was met by more deaths, a continuation of the monkeypox outbreak, and renewed interests in controversial figures. This list is also notable as, for the first time since it started in February, the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine fell off the Top 25. And included anew, England (not Britain) hosting sporting events.

Rank Article Class Views Image Notes/about
India at the 2022 Commonwealth Games 2,807,590 The Commonwealth's quadrennial sports reunion is ongoing in Birmingham, weirdly only the third time it's been hosted in England. India may be a republic, but it is still part of the Commonwealth and by far the largest country in it, and its subpage is naturally the most viewed article of all this week.
2022 Commonwealth Games 2,387,924
Bill Russell 1,350,667 "The single most devastating force in the history of the game" according to his coach, Russell, who holds the most championships in the history of the NBA as center for the Boston Celtics ( the finals MVP award is named after him), died this week at 88.
Taiwan 1,273,315 The dispute over the People's Republic of China and Taiwan flared up this week as #8 took a visit to Taiwan on her trip to Asia, resulting in live-drill military exercises in the waters around Taiwan and the suspension of citrus fruit, frozen horse mackerel, and chilled white striped hairtail from Taiwan.
Brittney Griner 1,058,124 In February, this U.S. basketball player was arrested at Russian customs after vape cartridges containing hashish oil were found in her luggage (for the record, she says she packed them by accident). This week she was sentenced to 9 years in prison for it. There is a controversial proposal to swap her for Russian arms trafficker Viktor Bout.
Hunter Moore 1,003,335 Continuing his place as #2 from last week, release of The Most Hated Man on the Internet, a Netflix documentary covering the site Is Anyone Up? has renewed interest in Hunter Moore, its creator, also predominantly featured in the documentary.
Deaths in 2022 941,381 If I don't meet you no more in this world
Then I'll meet ya on the next one
And don't be late
Nancy Pelosi 860,035 Pelosi is on a tour of Asia, and caused some controversy, and a mini-crisis when she visited #4. See there for more details.
Prey (2022 film) 859,080 The Predator is back, even if no one was counting on it after the 2018 movie, in this Hulu\ Star+ period piece where the alien hunter comes to Earth in the 18th century. A taut and thrilling experience that also has a great performance by Amber Midthunder as the Comanche woman trying to prove her worth by facing this extraterrestrial opponent, Prey earned great remarks all around, and in fact has a Rotten Tomatoes score higher than the Arnie-starring original.
Anne Heche 818,734 Actress Anne Heche was involved in a series of car crashes earlier this week that left her severely burned and intubated, dying of her injuries on August 12.
Alex Jones 814,381 Jones, the host of the far-right and conspiracy theory website InfoWars, landed in hot water this week as the trial of the parents of the victims of the Sandy Hook Elementary School shooting continues. Jones, who has proclaimed that the shooting was a hoax and that parents were paid actors in a false flag operation intended to restrict Americans rights to bear arms, was on trial to assess damages having already been found in default for failing to comply with discovery orders. The family in the case was awarded $4.1 million in compensatory damages and Jones was ordered to pay a further $45.2M in punitive damages. In a surprise twist of events, Jones' lawyer had accidentally sent two years of texts to the plaintiff's lawyer and the House Select Committee to Investigate the January 6th Attack had requested the texts as part of their investigation.
SummerSlam (2022) 785,445 The 35th annual SummerSlam occurred this week, with Roman Reigns defeating Brock Lesnar and defending his Undisputed WWE Universal Championship title. This was the first SummerSlam and WWE PPV event following the retirement of Vince McMahon.
Ayman al-Zawahiri 763,093 Osama Bin Laden's right-hand man, and his successor as head of al-Qaeda, was killed in an airstrike on July 31.
Woodstock '99 748,287 One year after HBO Max's Woodstock 99: Peace, Love, and Rage chronicled how the 20th anniversary of Woodstock was a clusterfrak that culminated in an angry mob burning and looting whatever was on the way, it is time for Netflix to tell the story of the maligned musical festival in the three part Trainwreck: Woodstock '99.
Andrew Tate 732,229 When this article first showed up in the Top 25 Report, we attributed it to a major spate of IP editing incited by its subject. However it seems it may actually be due to genuine interest, given he has recently risen to be one of the biggest names on TikTok and, unlike other newly anointed "internet personalities", he already has an article due to a past life as a kickboxer.
2022 monkeypox outbreak 689,937 The monkeypox outbreak continues to ravage throughout the world, with deaths now reported in India, Ghana, and Peru.
Nichelle Nichols 684,664 In the same day of #3's death there was another departure of a groundbreaking Black figure of the 1960s, namely Uhura from Star Trek: The Original Series, becoming the most recent actor from that series to die since Leonard Nimoy (aka Mr. Spock) back in 2015.
Nambi Narayanan 680,146 This Indian aerospace engineer continues to reach the Top 25 Report at #18, thanks in part due to the release of Rocketry: The Nambi Effect.
The Sandman (TV series) 679,044 The Neil Gaiman comic book The Sandman was frequently described as unfilmable, but after many years it has finally made it to screens as a television series and reviews have been generally positive.
Commonwealth Games 605,163 The beginning of #2 has brought this quadrennial sport event to #20.
Sofia Carson 597,293 Last year, a former Disney Channel actress named SC was much talked about for possibly having inspired some sour songs from a former co-star. This year, the SC is just here for starring in Netflix's Purple Hearts and rumors that she might be dating the male lead.
Vin Scully 542,605 A long-tenured announcer for the Los Angeles Dodgers, 66 years while inspiring the surname of Dana Scully of The X-Files along the way, and who died this week at the age of 94.
Bullet Train (film) 491,087 The week's big theatrical release is this frantic action comedy where Brad Pitt plays a retired hitman whose mission of retrieving a briefcase in a Japanese bullet train ends up with many other killers getting involved.
China's final warning 487,184 Tensions regarding #4 unearthed this Russian expression on how China's threats are usually not to be taken to heart.
Sarina Wiegman 480,691 And the article to finally push the 2022 Russian invasion of Ukraine off the list is something happier in Europe, the Dutch football coach that led England women's national football team to the UEFA Women's Euro 2022 title, defeating the Germans at Wembley.

Exclusions

  • This list excludes the Wikipedia main page, non-article pages (such as redlinks), and anomalous entries (such as DDoS attacks or likely automated views). Since mobile view data became available to the Report in October 2014, we exclude articles that have almost no mobile views (5–6% or less) or almost all mobile views (94–95% or more) because they are very likely to be automated views based on our experience and research of the issue. Please feel free to discuss any removal on the talk page if you wish.
