What this training is about

Note: This is a draft for discussion, and not a completed page

The Teahouse is a place for new editors to ask any question related to Wikipedia. Editors who answer questions there are referred to as "hosts".

You want to become a host? That is great! There are no formal requirements to start answering questions, so you could start doing that right away.

Unfortunately, practice has shown that new Teahouse hosts often answer questions incorrectly. That is a bad thing. [1]

This page proposes a simple training for new hosts. You will be given questions inspired by or copied from real-case Teahouse questions. You should attempt to answer them in the same manner as you would if you came across those questions for real. Once you have done so, check out the answer page and see how many you have right.

Please keep in mind that

  1. The training is entirely optional. You can decide to start answering real questions right away if you feel competent enough.
  2. You do not need to submit your answers to Teahouse hosts for judgement. You do not even need to write them out (but make sure to know exactly what you would write before reading the answers page).
  3. Even if you answer most or all questions correctly, you might decide that this kind of thing is not for you. That is okay; becoming a host is entirely voluntary, as all of Wikipedia.
  4. Even if you answer most or all questions incorrectly, you can still become a host. Read the answers, understand where you went wrong. Ask questions at the Teahouse to clarify if needed. If you are confident you can do well after that, go for it.

  1. ^ A bad anwser is much worse than no answer at all. In particular, other hosts may skip over questions that appear to have attracted replies already. That causes a wrong answer to stand uncorrected for a long time, when an unanswered question might get answered (correctly) faster.

The questions

All of the test questions (except the last one) were actually asked at the Teahouse. Try to answer them without looking at answers given by Teahouse hosts or anything the user posted after asking the initial question.

My business information rejected

Hello, I joined Wikipedia in 2021 and I have been trying to create a company wiki article not an advert, but the two sentences have been termed as articles and my submission has been rejected Kiwumulo ( talk) 01:15, 9 October 2022 (UTC) reply

Article rejected although I used almost same wording as another that is accepted

I have written an entry "Elevenish" which was rejected although I used almost the same wording as Matches Fashion as it was deemed by the reviewer as not "neutral". How come the other page is public?
